Your First Visit

Patient Forms                            ......go to forms page

Upon entering our office, our staff will gladly greet you.  Please make yourself feel at home. If you have preprinted, forms you may give them to the front desk, otherwise we gladly provide you forms to complete. This paperwork provides us with your health history and information about your condition, and appraises you of our HIPAA and financial policies.

Consultation                      ...request an appointment

If you prefer, you may request a free consultation with one of our doctors to discuss the relevance of conservative care for your health-related problem or concerns. This brief consultation allows the doctor to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine if our care services can meet your goals.

Welcome to Chiropractic

After your paperwork is completed, Dr. Mary Brechtel requests that all new (or prospective) patients watch an informative five-minute long video introducing you to chiropractic. Whether its your first time for chiropractic, or you're a regular, we like to review the basics about chiropractic care using the video system so that you and the doctor are on the same page with terms, types of care, and expectations. However, no popcorn will be provided.

Examination

After the video, with your consent, the doctor will perform a complete chiropractic examination, including neurologic and orthopedic tests relevant to your history and symptoms. Weight distribution, foot topography and Bio-Impedance (Cellular hydratdion, BMI, Phase Angle)testing are also incorporated as required.

X-Ray Studies

Depending on your specific condition,  X-rays may be required to diagnoses and confirm results suggested by your history and exam. X-rays help to develop the most effective treatment plan for you, and alert us of  any serious spinal conditions, and allow us to follow your spines progress with care. To not look is to guess, and we wont guess with your health!

Report of Findings

On your next visit to the clinic, the doctor will review your history and exam and X-ray findings with you in what we call a "Report of Findings". During this process the doctor addresses three main questions:
     What's wrong with me?
     Can you help me?
How long is it going to take?

You will be encouraged to answer questions, look at your X-rays objectively, and play with the model spines. This is where you learn why chiropractic is important to you, and why you should stick to the care plan presented to you. Pay attention, there is a test afterwards! -Just kidding.

Finally, a member of the staff will discuss the financial aspects of care with you based on the information you provided us during your initial visit.

Treatment

Once you understand what chiropractic has to offer you, you're ready for your first treatment. Treatments include therapies such as heat or cold packs, muscle stimulation (TENS), ultrasound, deep tissue massage, guasha, and traction.  Chiropractic adjustments can be done by hand (manual manipulaiton), by instrument (e.g. activator), or by other gentle techniques (e.g. pelvic blocking). Treatment is interactive, so you can express your likes and dislikes about the different styles of treatment anytime; our doctors are experts at multiple adjusting styles and wil find what works right for you. Rehabilitative exercises, sleeping habits, postural issues, nutritional issues, and even footwear will be addresses as you proceed through your care plan.

Leaving the office

During your Report of Findings you likely will set an appointment schedule with the staff. Its important to stay on course with your care plan in order to proceed as fluently through the stages of care (see relief, corrective, & wellness) on the road to better health. You are investing time, effort, and money in getting better and our staff be there to keep you on tract. As you leave your first visit you will be given information about chiropractic, a reusable ice pack, and samples of Biofreeze for home care. And as always, if you have any questions about care before your next appointment, you are welcome to call at any time.
